Dr K S Nayak is a nephrologist of global repute in the areas of chronic kidney disease, home dialysis, renal transplantation, telemedicine & artificial intelligence applications in nephrology. However, his enduring passion is his work in preclinical research especially in the area of validation of medical devices in animal models. He excels in ‘disruptive technology’, so much so that Harvard Business Review, has labelled his work as ‘reverse medical innovation’, whereby his ideas are very relevant equally to the developed and developing world. He believes that technology is on the cusp of delivering simplified patient-centered, home-based care for those needing dialysis for end stage kidney disease, improving their quality of life, rehabilitation and access to renal transplantation.
